Working closely with OrthoNC’s sports medicine physician, Dr. John Neidecker, Dr. Paul Cohen will be treating and managing OrthoNC’s concussion patients from start to finish. Dr. Cohen completed a 2-year fellowship focused entirely on concussions, and is the only such provider in the state of North Carolina. He trained with the individuals who created the ImPACT testing program, and can help create a detailed return to school/work plans. He has worked with over 4,000 athletes who have experienced a concussion, ranging from youth athletes to NFL players and Olympians. He has also published peer-reviewed articles on concussion management and has been an invited speaker to multiple meetings and conferences. Dr. Cohen has extensive experience helping patients safely return to work, school, and sports.

OrthoNC’s Concussion Program is an integrative clinic designed to evaluate, treat, and manage concussions from start to finish. Our team of providers believe that concussion is a treatable injury. Our goal is to understand not only your injury but who you are as a person, in order to provide the most effective treatment. We offer the best healing experience by helping our patients return to work, school sports, and other everyday activities as quickly, and as safely, as possible.
What To Expect
- An interdisciplinary Concussion Team made up of a Neuropsychologist, Sports Medicine Physician, & Physical Therapists
- After each visit, you will leave with an individualized treatment plan tailored to your own symptoms and goals
- Adherence to the latest concussion management guidelines
Advanced Techniques
OrthoNC utilizes stat-of-the-art, advanced assessment tools to test, diagnose, and treat brain injuries and concussions. Each evaluation will include:
- Detailed clinical interview
- Vestibular/ocular motor screening
- Balance testing
- Neurocognitive evaluation
With an in-house neuropsychologist, we are able to objectively measure your cognitive functioning, which can help inform return-to-work and return-to-school decisions and planning. By putting together the pieces of your injury, we are able to tell which areas of your brain have been impacted and then develop a treatment plan that’s right for you.
