With an interest in sports medicine as well as brain functioning, concussion management was a natural fit, perfectly melding two of Dr. Cohen’s passions- sports and the brain.

Dr. Cohen completed an APA-accredited internship at Tulane University School of Medicine. He then completed a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Sports Medicine Concussion Program. Training directly with field leaders and the creators of ImPACT, Dr. Cohen was part of the concussion management team for the Pitt Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dr. Cohen believes that concussion is a treatable injury, and has a passion for helping patients of all ages recover from concussions. Throughout his career, he has managed over 4,000 patients with concussions, ranging from Workers’ Comp injuries to MVC, and from youth athletes to NFL All-Stars and Olympians. Dr. Cohen enjoys learning about each patient as a whole person, and helping everyone get back to the activities they enjoy as quickly- and as safely- as possible.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Cohen is very involved in furthering the practice of concussion management. He has been an invited speaker to a variety of audiences on the topic of concussion, and has published research in multiple peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. Dr. Cohen is very involved in Sports Neuropsychology Society (SNS) having held multiple leadership positions for the international organization.

After living and training all over the country, Dr. Cohen is thrilled to be settled back in North Carolina with his family, and enjoys watching sports, running marathons, and being outdoors.
