Orthopaedic Sports Medicine & Shoulder Surgery

Specializing in ACL Reconstruction & Minimally Invasive Shoulder Surgery

Dr. Galland began his career in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine while serving in the United States Navy at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. There, he served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and received numerous awards and commendations for both leadership and excellence in treating the musculoskeletal and sports injuries common among sailors and marines. The broad experience in sports medicine Dr. Galland received during his service in the Navy complemented the training he received at Tulane University in his home state of Louisiana.

Dr. Galland demonstrated an early affinity for the treatment of injured athletes during his residency training under renowned sports medicine specialist, Michael Brunet, M.D. The relationship between Dr. Galland and Dr. Brunet had a profound effect on his practice style and approach to complex sports injuries. Dr. Galland had abundant opportunity to refine that approach when he was selected to serve as assistant team physician to both the undefeated Tulane University football team and Tulane men’s basketball team. He also served as team physician to several local high schools and colleges, including Dillard and Xavier Universities.
Since joining Orthopaedic Specialists of North Carolina, Dr. Galland has continued his commitment and dedication to the treatment of injured athletes.

He currently serves as team physician and Orthopaedic consultant to the Carolina Mudcats; medical director and orthopaedic consultant to the Louisburg College Athletic Program, and team physician/orthopaedic consultant to several area high schools.

Dr. Galland has authored many book chapters and papers in sports medicine. His advice and consultation have been sought by world-class athletes of track and field and Major League Baseball. His passion for resolving musculoskeletal ailments and injuries in the most conservative manner possible puts all his patients in the most capable and caring of hands.

Dr. Whitehurst and the nurse with him stayed until 9:30 helping get my daughter arm right… even when it was good he wasn’t satisfied and took off splint to make it perfect… amazing bed side manner and compassion… even we’ll after closing time.

Everything we discussed made such perfect sense. I am one week in on the keto diet lab. While not cold turkey, I see it and I feel it and I thank you so much. Michelle has actually changed my quality of life. I can’t say enough.

1 year after hip replacement check-up- all good. Feels and moves like it was my own natural hip when I was young. I’m pain free and back to doing what ever I want- except restrictions of no high impact. Great job Dr. Rion! The man is pretty cool!

Very knowledgeable and great communicator. I am fortunate to have Dr. Watson as my orthopedic back doctor. I have had back pain for years and have never had a doctor as thorough as Dr. Watson. I highly recommend Dr. Watson. We need more doctors like him.
