OrthoNC is hiring a full-time Certified or Registered Medical Assistant to join our dedicated clinical support team. In this important patient-facing role, you’ll play a key part in delivering compassionate, efficient orthopedic care alongside our providers in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

This position supports providers across our Wakefield, Wendell Falls, and Henderson offices. Schedule hours may vary based on clinic and surgical schedules, with providers typically seeing patients in clinic 4–5 days per week.

What You’ll Do

  • Greet and room patients per protocol, including triage, intake, and applying standing orders
  • Support treatment plans under the provider’s direction, including splinting, wound care, suture and staple removal, dressing changes, injections, gait training, DME fitting, TENS education, and crutch instruction
  • Assist with patient prep for procedures and provide patient education and counseling per MIPS protocols
  • Accurately document intake, history of present illness (HPI), procedures, medications, orders, and quality metrics in the EMR (Athena experience preferred)
  • Complete chart preparation and ensure all patient information is updated and documented appropriately
  • Perform administrative tasks, including answering and returning patient phone calls, managing patient messages, disability paperwork, and completing prior authorizations
  • Prepare injections and coordinate diagnostic testing or follow-up care at the direction of the supervising physician
  • Promote patient and family understanding of the plan of care and document appropriately in the medical record
  • Ensure patients understand their care plan before leaving the office
  • Support clinic cleanliness and maintain stocked exam rooms and supply areas
  • Collaborate with front desk, billing, and care navigators to support efficient scheduling and patient coordination
  • Follow all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA requirements
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

What We’re Looking For

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant from an AAMA-accredited program or equivalent
  • 0-5 years of experience as a medical assistant
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Calm under pressure and able to manage multiple clinical workflows efficiently
  • Team-oriented with a strong commitment to patient-centered care
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiastic about learning and continuous improvement

Required Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant from an AAMA-accredited program or equivalent preferred
  • Clinical experience required
  • Orthopedic experience preferred but not required

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a related field
  • CPR/BLS certification
  • Orthopedic or musculoskeletal clinic experience
  • Casting proficiency (as clinically required)
  • Experience with Athena EMR preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
