A Knightdale, NC native and North Carolina State University graduate, Dr. Derek P. Watson completed his medical education at Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He then completed his residency training at East Carolina University where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Watson is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). As a specialist in PM&R, Dr. Watson’s focus is on restoring function and quality of life for patients suffering from disorders and injuries of the nerve, muscles, and joints (including the spine). Dr. Watson is specialty-trained in performing electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS).

He specializes in non-surgical treatment including selective fluoroscopic guided spine injections (including epidural steroid injections, facet injections, and radiofrequency ablation), physical therapy prescription, medication management, adaptive equipment assessments, botulinum toxin (Botox) injections for spasticity, and soft tissue injections.

Dr. Watson is an active member of the International Spine Interventional Society; the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists; and the North Carolina Medical Society.

Dr. Watson resides in Raleigh with his wife and sons.
